About Strathmore
Thomas Napier, who came from the valley of Strathmore in Scotland, purchased a substantial estate to the north of Essendon in the 1840s. When the local progress association requested a change of name for the area in the 1940s, Strathmore was chosen.
Strathmore is a suburb of Melbourne, its situated approximately 11 km north-west of Melbourne’s CBD, located in the North Suburbs Of Melbourne. Strathmore is part of the City of Moonee Valley local government area.
Strathmore is bordered by Woodland Street to the south, Bulla Road and Essendon Airport in the west, and the Moonee Ponds Creek to the north east.
The Tullamarine Freeway divides the suburb into northern and southern halves.
