About Epping

The suburb of Epping was original named after the Epping Forest in 1853, where the only landmarks that were established by then were a hotel and a Catholic school (1844).


Epping is a northern suburb of Melbourne, located 26 kilometres north of the CBD. The local governing area of Epping is the City of Whittlesea. The 2011 census showed that Epping had a population of 32,200, and is predicted to have an annual growth rate of 9.1 per cent.

In general, Epping is known for having a flat terrain, however in the north there are a few large hills, that provides an amazing view of Melbourne.
