The Sydenham Post Office first opened on 26 August 1861. A railway station originally named Keilor Road began operating in 1859 and was renamed Sydenham on 1 April 1887. Among its early Station Masters were Jock Mac Rob and Graham Homes. In 2002, the station was relocated and reopened as Watergardens, coinciding with the extension of the electric rail service to the area. Located on the Sunbury railway line, Watergardens served as the terminus station until November 2012.
